Terphane’s Ecophane® line of PCR (post-consumer recycled) films recently earned a Bronze Brazilian Packaging ABRE Award in the ‘Technology’ category. In addition to its sustainable character and circularity, the packaging is the first in Brazil produced with post-consumer food grade recycled material. The Ecophane® line of PCR films is the only product to have the approval of The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA), the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the European Union for contact with food. “The Ecophane® PET PCR film, produced with at least 30% PCR in its composition, ensures less use of virgin raw materials and encourages the circularity of packaging,” noted André Gani, Terphane’s director of sales and marketing. “The fact that a food package can become a food package again prevents downcycling – that is, the use of post-consumer recycled materials in less sustainable applications.”
